Any other teachers out there?

I am a public school teacher in the "Golden State" of CA.  I battled back and forth with the committee on teacher credentialing in Sacramento for six months.  They told me in an email (the only way to contact them, they won't answer the phone) no problem, just send in the two needed items as your credential states.  So I did that, ten weeks later they send me back a letter listing six things I was required to do to get my clear.  Two of the six were never mentioned before that letter, and one of the six I knew I didn't need to do. 
The government doesn't even try to appear to be responsive to the people of this once great state.  My situation is settled now, and I'm a legal teacher again.  In that time I wouldn't have been, did my abilities drop? We need more people who want to teach, not just more of those who want to have summers off and get to be administrators asap because,"that's where the money is."  The state should be helping good people get through this maze they call teacher training, not making it constantly more and more difficult to the point that many have given up.  I recently talked to a guy that said he was going back into law enforcement, "it is easier to be a cop than a teacher he said. "
The seemingly endless redtape that is in this state is maddening to many of us. That is one of the reasons so many families are leaving here. I hear it is much better in other states, what has been your experience, in or out of the not so golden state?

Barack-the second coming.... of JFK

I thought obama's idea to have his acceptance speech in the open air 70,000 seat stadium was a modern day media stroke of genius.  Then I read somewhere that JFK did the same thing at the LA Colisium in 1960.  JFK is his model of how to become president.  He'll use tv to put on a good show, as JFK did.  He will also take advantage of a very supportive media, even more than JFK had in 1960. As I said back in Feb. 08, Barack may not have to have much or any content to his message, the media will be the message.  The American people better wake up, but it may be too late.  McCain is going to get dusted in any kind of debate, that's why he wants townhall meetings. the problem for Obama/JFK model is Obama doesn't have Joe Kennedy buying votes and cutting deals for him.  Maybe he has other people doing that. Like JFK, he'll have lots of people in Chicago voting 3 or 4 times, probably all over the country this time around.  It is amazing isn't it, a senator with 3 short years of experience, a few years in a state legislature, a "community organizer" (whatever the hell that is) is close to becoming president.  He calls himself black, but his father left him, he was raised by his white mother and grandparents in Hawaii, moved to Indonesia, went to schools that included required classes in Islam, went to college at Occidental and Harvard (very few black students or faculty)  and lives in a mansion outside Chicago.  I grew up in a town that was very ethnically mixed in southern california in the 70's.  I had more experience with black americans than he did growing up.  Well, if he wins, America will get what it wanted! I never thought Bill Clinton would look good as president, but Barack makes him appear so now!

the racial campaign is on!

As I stated on Feb. 28th, this will be a racial campaign, and it will be made that way from Obama's camp!
I watched Jim Willis, the editor of Sojourners(sp) magazine, a very liberal christian publication, say on CNN that today's speech by Obama isn't about him, or his pastor/mentor of 20 years.
It is about us, the American people.  Are we going to be mature enough to accept what Obama says and move on.
There it is, if you don't accept Obama, you haven't "matured" enough yet.  So in other words, if you don't support him, you haven't moved beyond your childish racist thoughts.  As I said before, I don't vote based on anyone's skin color or gender.  I do however vote based on their ideas, character and goals for this country.  I don't agree with either of the democrats on their ideas for more government control of our lives, and I don't agree with their goals for this country.  

This is just the beginning of the round and round.  Here we go.

thoughts on the current state of affairs in the U.S.

On the Spitzer deal, I'm just glad it was a democrat for a change. 
On the Geraldine Ferrero deal, she compared her being chosen as VP in 84 because she was a woman to Obama's situation.  How is that racist?   Name another "community organizer", state legislator, and jr. senator with barely two years in the senate with great speaking skills that would be taken seriously in a run for the White House.  Hillary's attempt to convince us of her 35 years of experience is laughable enough, but is experience matters, then neither of these two should be up there.  Maybe expience doesn't, Reagan didn't have much, and he was great.  It all comes down to who you are and what are your core beliefs.  That is who I'll vote for, not color or gender. 
 
It is however as I predicted in my blog back on Feb 28.  Any negative or unacceptable (to the elite who try to define us) statements  about Obama will be painted as racist.  That is why I made a tee shirt to express this dilemma in our culture.  You can find it on Zazzle, look for tees08, then the Obama shirt. We must stop those "elites" that try to control the rest of us with their definitions of what is acceptable for free speech.  Liberals claim to be the defenders of free speech.  But if it is not to their liking, it is defined as hate speech.

The coming campaign of guilt

I am expecting that once the race settles down to Obama vs McCain, the fur will begin to fly.  How long will it take for the Obama camp or other supporters to throw out the strawman of racism?  I mean, how long until a vote for McCain is spun as "that person is not ready for a black president."  Which will mean "you are a racist."

I don't have a problem voting for any color or gender for president.  I listen and look for a person who thinks the same way about things as I do.  Smaller government, ecomomic freedom, national defense and conservative social beliefs.  I think Thomas Sowell, Walter Williams, Michael Steele or especially Condi Rice would make great leaders of our country.  Any one of those mentioned are more qualified than Mr. Obams. It is like Susan Saradon said about Hillary,"I'm all for a woman president, I'm just not sure about this woman."  I'm all for cleaning up Washington, hope and  change, but not to the extreme left with this candidate.  Does that make me bad?

The new Messiah?

   Does anyone else out there think the way that Obama is being portrayed is disturbing?  Especially Christians? The "hope" and the fainting is just too much.  Even those in the news media that are jaded from years in Washington are feeling "something new."  I think the Democrats have found the perfect answer to the Clinton problems. Have a candidate who doesn't have much of a record, and doesn't stand for much of anything.  However, he looks good and sounds good on television, and that may be the best attribute of all in our visual media dominated time.  
I'm reminded of the Kennedy-Nixon debates back in 1960.  The surveys afterward told the story. Those that watched the debates on television thought Kennedy won, because he looked and sounded more presidential.  Those that heard the debates on radio thought Nixon the overwhelming winner.  You would assume radio listeners based their decision on the issues. How much more are people influenced by what they see and feel today than in 1960? 
How much more influential will tv be this fall when Obama and McCain debate?  McCain either puts you to sleep, or comes off angry and attacking.  Obama looks and sounds great, but he doesn't have much content to his rhetoric.  Maybe he won't need any! Maybe that's the plan.
